Driver window and top fight

Postby murrayn2rock on Wed Sep 03, 2008 1:56 am

Hi All,

Just brought my Midnight Blue RL w/black interior home on Saturday and I love it. What a ride! I have a issue though with the drivers window pinning the edge of the top down when I shut the door. I have to pull the lip of the top out from the edge of the window. Has anyone had this problem?

Dear murrayn2rock, Our salesman gave us an "orientation" last Summer when we picked up our Chili Pepper Red with Black top, leather seats (Go Dawgs!) 2008 Redline. Part of the orientation was to always lower the windows completely when raising the top, and to have the doors CLOSED anytime we raise OR lower the top. We have the windows down, raise and lock the top, and secure the grommets all before raising the windows and exiting/locking the car. Otherwise, problems will prevail such as you are experiencing. It is one SWEET ride, and we couldn't be happier with our choice. ENJOY!!!

Thanks for the reply. The problem I'm having is that when the top has been put up and the windows have been put up and I exit the car and shut the door, this is when the window pins the edge of the top down instead of going behind it. The passenger side does not do this.

Dear Murrayn2Rock,
Your top/window problem is common. The fix is easy but a little hard for me to explain, anyway - with windows down, as you are putting the top up make sure the top assembly tab fits EXACTLY into the black notch which is located in the top of the body right in back of the driver's door. (Passengers side doesn't seem to have this problem.) As you have the top almost all the way up but not locked yet, push/pull in or out slightly, the bottom of the top assembly where it fits into the body notch -you will hear/feel it pop in. I already had the window weatherstrip replaced needlessly, then we figured out the problem.- A little Sky quirk/defect.
P.S. If I drive my Red Line carefully I can get 34 MPG highway, all day long!
Good luck,
