Driving the Sky Redline (its a hard car to drive)

Postby buzzard on Sun Apr 22, 2007 4:21 am

Ive driven stick since I was 12 years old on my dads old bronco to tow trucks to small sports cars but I just got my Redline today and put 120 miles on it and stalled out almost 20 times. There is very lil slippage allowed byt the clutch, its either engaged or disengaged and if you have the stereo blasting (monsoon) and you dont here the engine you easly stall out well at least I do. And if you play it safe you spin tires :(. This is the second redline Ive driven and they both drove the same so I knwo its not somthing specific to mine. I got my as beat today by a POS RX8 just messing around on the hiway but I think its cuase I dont know how to use the turbo to my benifit. I always thought of myself as a bad ass driver till now. i still love the car and it is the sexiest beast in the wourld, people every where stop me to look at it and all my friends are just amazed. Also my dealer told me breaking in the engine really didnt do to much at all they said it wouldnt hurt to be a lil gentel with it for 400 miles or so but its not a big deal. Any one know when that nasty metal burning smell will go away? lol Great car and id love to hear back from some owners, thanks.

After a few days of driving

Postby buzzard on Tue Apr 24, 2007 10:14 am

After a few days of driving either I have learned to to drive it better or the car is breaking in and easier to drive or a mixture of both. I definately could not really race any one at this point cuase of not knowing how to use the turbo to my advantage. The car seems a lil faster after break in and fuel economy has gone up but the stupid computer is so off. I drove from austin to dallas at speeds between 100 - 140 mph and the computer gave me a avg. speed of 38 mph. lol. Also my fuel ecopnomy no matter what speed I traveled at was 20 miles to the gallon. kinda weird huh?

Hard to drive.....

Had mine about a week now and I understand what you mean. The clutch is very tight, engaged or not. However, haven't stalled it yet and getting used to it now. Great shifts from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th, turbo runs great from about 3500 rpm up to redline of 6500 rpm. So try to keep the rpm's up a bit if trying to push your way around with another roadwarrior.

Have fun with it, and forget about fuel economy...that's not what a sports car is about. (LOL)

Mine is as smooth as butter

I don't know what you guys are talking about. This RL is my second Sky and I have not stalled either ....ever. I let a friend (in the BMW Z club) drive it hard over a twisty hilly route with lots of stops. He was blown away with how smooth it shifted and how good the clutch felt, and he knows what he is talking about..

Just bought an '09 Ruby Red Sky Redline with the 5 speed auto. A fantastic machine! Correct me if I'm wrong, but due to problems or whatever, you can no longer for love or money even buy a Sky Redline in manual mode. Correct or no?
